Barnsley and District Amalgamated Angling Society

The Barnsley and District Amalgamated Angling Society (BDAAS) was established many years ago and initially consisted of an amalgam of the myriad of colliery and local tavern fishing clubs in the Barnsley area, some of which are still going strong today.

Whilst the collieries may now be long gone, angling, as a sport and recreation activity, certainly has not; we are thriving.  As a society, we are honoured to be the home for the World Renowned ‘Barnsley Blacks’, one of the most decorated fishing teams in the UK and beyond and the current holders of the World Club Campions cup (Croatia 2019) and not forgetting Alan Scotthorne MBE, the record individual World Champion on five occasions, the most successful angler in history.

The Society has a membership in excess of 600, ranging from junior right through to ‘very’ senior members (both male and female).  We encourage as many youngsters as possible to fish by offering free fishing to those under the age of 12 and discounted for those aged up to 16. The Society is run by a committee focussed on providing and enhancing your fishing experiences on each venue whilst endeavouring to maintain a haven for the local wildlife and cater for biodiversity initiatives.

We own or have the fishing rights to a range of venues in both the immediate vicinity of Barnsley and on the River Trent at Fiskerton (Nottinghamshire).  All of our fisheries local to Barnsley are well maintained, restocked on a regular basis and well bailiffed.  Each fishery offers an incredibly good range of species to target, be you a pleasure angler or match fisherman.

Where possible we offer access to those with varying levels of disability. You can see what each venue has to offer by clicking on the links above above or at the bottom of the page under venues.

Smithies Lane Reservoir and Tinkers Ponds are the smaller of our venues and each offers a tranquil spot for the pleasure angler whilst Worsbrough Reservoir and Sally Walsh’s are larger and offer a more diverse range of species and certainly of the larger variety with Carp to 40lb plus and catfish way beyond that weight. Fiskerton on the River Trent offers a fantastic range of silver fish, predators, river carp and the elusive barbel and the occasional Zander.
